The founding of Greater Lehigh Valley's chapter began its journey in 2019 after having a positive experience with AWC's South Florida chapter. We knew eastern PA could benefit from a group of diverse women seeking to lift each other up and promote the advancement of women in communications.
Empowering women to stay at the forefront of the ever evolving communications industry. Inspired by the change and confidence that comes when strong women support other women, we saw a need for a local group to empower women in communications across the Greater Lehigh Valley.
AWCLV supports both professional and personal development skills in the communications industry. Our members and volunteers provide the momentum that helps us affect change.
Founded in 1909, the National Association for Women in Communications was created to empower female presence in communication careers. In its early stages, it was a crucial group politically to allow women the same freedom and rights in the communications industry, as their male counterparts, but it also helped raise support and awareness for women empowerment in general. In the 70s , the group joined the national Equal Rights Amendment coalition to fight opposition against the Equal Rights Amendment, and also joined forces with other organizations to help preserve the First Amendment, among many other causes.
Today, there are 13 professional chapters across the country!
